Ready to share your voice? You can create a video either on the web at Flip.com or on the Flip app. You’re able to either record and submit a video directly to a topic or to your profile. Learn how to join a topic.
To create a video response, there are 3 general steps:
Step 1: Record your video
After you open the Flip camera, you’re able to set up and record the type of video you want. Choose the camera mode and effects you want to use. Learn about all the Flip camera's options and effects.
Step 2: Review your video
After you record, you can watch what you just recorded and decide how you want to edit your video. You can also add music from Flip's music library. Learn more about how to edit your video.
Step 3: Post your video
Add a cover image or brief description for your video, then choose whether to post it directly to a topic or to your profile.
How to record and post a video
You’re able to add a response directly to a topic if you’re in that topic or when you’re ready to post a video. If you don’t want to post to a topic immediately, you can save the video response to your profile and add it later.
When you create a video, you can add multiple clips before you go to the review step. Each time you record and stop recording, a new clip is added. When you review the video, you can trim and delete individual clips.

- Go to info.flip.com and log in.
- If you can't create groups, make sure you join a group first. Learn how to find out if you can create groups.
- Choose whether you want to post the video to a topic or post it to your profile.
- To post to a topic: Select the group > the topic where you want to post your video. Then, click Add to topic
.
- To post to your profile: In the top left, click Camera
.
- To post to a topic: Select the group > the topic where you want to post your video. Then, click Add to topic
- At the bottom under Record
, select the camera mode.
- Video mode: Record both the video and audio from your device's camera and microphone. The Flip camera defaults to this mode.
- Audio mode: Record only the audio from your device's microphone. Your device's camera is turned off in this mode.
- Create mode: Add any camera effects you want. Both your device's camera and microphone are turned off. Learn more about create mode [link].
- Choose how you want to set up your video with options and effects. You may be able to change some of these while you record.
- When you're ready, to record your video, click Record
.
- To stop recording, click Stop record
. This creates a clip.
- To delete the clip and try again: In the bottom left, click Retake
.
- To record another clip: Choose whether to change your camera mode or effects. Then, click Record
.
- To delete the clip and try again: In the bottom left, click Retake
- To go to the review step, in the bottom right, click Next
.
- Review your video. Learn more about how you can edit your video.
- To trim a clip: Under the video player, select the clip you want to rim. To adjust the length of the clip, select one of the 2 thick blue bars and move it along the clip. When you’re done, in the bottom right, click Confirm.
- To delete a clip: Under the video player, click the clip you want to delete. Then, in the bottom left, click Delete clip

- To add more clips to your video: Next to the video clip bar, click Add more
. Then choose what type of video you want to add.
- To go to the post video step, in the bottom right, click Next
.
- If you want, you can edit your response’s cover image and caption.
- To change where to post the video: Under “Post to:”, click Change. Select the topic from the list, or enter a topic name in the search bar. After you selected the correct topic, click Continue.
- To return to the review stage: In the bottom left, click Edit video
.
- To post your video, in the bottom right, click either Post to topic or Save to my profile.
You can record multiple clips before you go to the review step. Each time you record and stop recording, a new clip is added.
- Open the Flip app.
- Choose whether you want to post the video to a topic or post it to your profile.
- To post to a topic: Select the group > the topic where you want to post your video.
- To post to your profile: At the bottom, tap Camera
.
- Note: When you choose to post to your profile, the maximum response length you can record is 90 seconds.
- At the bottom under Record
, swipe to select the camera mode.
- Video mode: Record both the video and audio from your device's camera and microphone. The Flip camera defaults to this mode.
- Audio mode: Record only the audio from your device's microphone. Your device's camera is turned off in this mode.
- Create mode: Add any camera effects you want. Both your device's camera and microphone are turned off. Learn more about create mode [link].
- Choose how you want to set up your video with options and effects. You may be able to change some of these while you record.
- Switch between the selfie and back camera: In the top right, tap Switch
. If you use the back camera, you can also turn Flash
on or off.
- Choose your video's orientation: Rotate your device to record a video in portrait or landscape mode.
- Set up different video options or effects: At the right, in the Effects dock, you can change some of your recording options or add different effects.
- Switch between the selfie and back camera: In the top right, tap Switch
- When you're ready, to record your video, tap Record
.
- To stop recording, tap Stop record
. This creates a clip.
- To delete the clip and try again: In the bottom right, tap Retake
.
- To record another clip: Choose whether to change your camera mode or effects. Then, tap Record
.

- To go to the review step, in the bottom right, tap the Clips thumbnail
.
- Review your video. Learn more about how you can edit your video.
- To trim a clip: Under the video, select the clip you want to trim. Select one of the 2 thick blue bars at each end of the clip. To adjust the length of the clip, tap and hold the blue bar and move it along the clip. When you’re done, in the bottom right, tap Confirm
.
- To delete a clip: Under the video, select the clip you want to delete. Under the clip, tap Delete clip
.
- To add another clip: In the bottom left, tap Add more
.
- To trim a clip: Under the video, select the clip you want to trim. Select one of the 2 thick blue bars at each end of the clip. To adjust the length of the clip, tap and hold the blue bar and move it along the clip. When you’re done, in the bottom right, tap Confirm
- To go to the post video step, in the bottom right, tap Next
.
- Choose whether to save your video to your profile or to post to a different topic.
- To select a different topic to post the video: Next to "Select a topic," tap the down arrow
. Under "Post to" your group's name and list of topics within that group show up. You can't post videos in topics that are "View only" topics.
- Select a topic within the current group: Tap the topic you want to post in.
- Select a topic within a different group: At the top, to the left of the group name, tap Back
. Select a group > topic you want to post in.
- To return to the review stage: In the top left, tap Back
.
- To select a different topic to post the video: Next to "Select a topic," tap the down arrow
- To post your video, in the bottom right, tap either Post to topic or Save to my profile.
How to post a video from your profile
You’re able to post a video to any topic that you're a member of from the “My videos” page in your profile.
Important: When you remove a response from a topic, the video isn't deleted. You're able to find it again in your "My videos" page.
- Go to info.flip.com and log in.
- If you can't create groups, make sure you join a group first. Learn how to find out if you can create groups.
- At the top left, click My videos

- At the top right of the video you want to post, click More
> Post to
.
- To remove a video from a topic: Next to the topic name, click Remove
. In the "Remove from topic?" box, click Remove.
- To remove a video from a topic: Next to the topic name, click Remove
- In the "Post to topic" window, click the down arrow
. Then select the topic.
- Click Post to topic.
- Open the Flip app.
- At the bottom right, tap your Profile photo bubble
.
- Under “My Videos,” select the video you want to post to a topic.
- From the video, tap More
> Post to
.
- To remove a video from a topic: Next to the topic name, tap Remove
. Select the topic from the list.
- To search for a topic: In the top right, tap Search
> the text box. Enter the topic name.
- To remove a video from a topic: Next to the topic name, tap Remove
- In the "Post to this topic?" window, tap Post.
Post a video to a moderated topic
When a topic is moderated, it means that only you and your leads can view your video in the topic. Your leads can activate the video at any time, which allows all other members in the group to view it.
- “Moderated topic” label: This label shows up on the topic’s page, above the topic's name. You can also find it at the top right of the comments section for any video posted in the topic.
- Video message: After you post a video, a message says that only leads and co-leads can view your video until leads activate in the topic. The message shows up:
- Before you post the video: In the “Post video” screen.
- After you post the video: When you click “Go to topic.”
- Comment message: After you try to post a comment, under your name where you typed the comment, a message says the topic is moderated and the comment has to be activated before it shows up.
