You’re able to change the status of your topics at any time. You can also schedule a topic status change for specific dates. You're only able to change the topic status on Flip for web.
There are 3 different topic statuses:
- Active: The topic is open for students to post new videos and comments, depending on the other topic settings.
- View only: The topic can be shared and found, but no new videos or comments can be posted, and students can’t change video details. A “This topic is view only” message shows up on the topic page and a "View only" label shows up next to the topic in your topics list on the group page.
- Hidden: The topic is hidden from everyone except the group educator. New students aren’t able to join with the Join code or link. A "Hidden" label shows up next to the topic in your topics list on the group page.
A topic status change can allow you to share your topics with other non-members and help you stay organized in your group.
Important: You're able to change your group status between "Active" and "Archived". Learn how to edit your group settings.
How to change a topic status
After you select a new topic status, it should change immediately.
- Go to info.flip.com and log in.
- At the left, in your groups home, select the group with the topic you want to update.
- Next to the topic you want to edit click and select the new status: Activate topic, View only topic, or Hide topic.

Note: You’re also able to change your topic status in the topic’s settings.
How to schedule a start or end date
You’re able to schedule when you want your topic status to change. This allows you to create a topic before it's active and gives you the opportunity to set the duration of when a topic is active. The default start date is set to the date you created the topic. The default end date isn't set.
- Start date: If you change this to a future date, the current topic status is changed to “Scheduled.” The topic status changes to “Active” at 12:01 AM in your time zone for the date you choose. Students aren't able to join the topic until the topic is active. If they try to join, they get a “We can't find this group or topic” screen that tells them, "This group or topic doesn't exist or isn't ready yet."
- End date: The default date isn't set, which means that the topic status remains “Active” unless you change it. If you set an end date, the topic status changes to “View only” at 11:59 PM on the date you choose.
