The Flip camera makes learning fun and empowering, connecting your students in a familiar social-media feeling experience with the security and power of your curriculum and unique community. In addition to the ability to record a video, the native features built right inside of Flip allow your students to creatively construct their recording with and beyond spoken word.
Use Create Mode
You can now create a video without recording video or audio. With create mode, you can use the Flip camera’s effects to create visual cards as clips in your video. Learn more about Create Mode in this article.
Add Text, Emoji, Drawing, and Custom Images
- Launch the camera by clicking the record button.
- Open the Effects drawer at the bottom of the recorder to add text, emoji, ink, or a custom image.
- Create your masterpiece before pressing record before, during or after recording!
- Complete your recording, choose a frame from your video or take a selfie, and hit submit!
Create on Boards
Empower your students to show their work with a Board, (whiteboard, blackboard, corkboard, graph paper, and more).
Steps:
- Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
- Open the Effects drawer at the bottom of the recorder, and click on Board.
- Create your masterpiece before pressing record or while recording!
- Complete your recording, package with a selfie, and hit submit!
BONUS: drag the board to split the screen between your camera and your board!
Create a stop motion sequence (with pause and record)
- Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
- Capture a scene by quickly starting and stopping the recording.
- Slightly change the scene.
- Capture a new scene by quickly starting and stopping the recording.
- Repeat.
- Complete recording, package with a selfie, and hit submit!
Upload Videos from Your Camera Roll
Your students can upload clips from their camera roll. Add context by recording an introduction before their clip and a summary clip after the video with the Flip camera. Students can also create videos in other applications and upload those to Flip, an art known as AppSmashing; for inspiration, check out the AppSmash Madness 2020 Grid!
Steps:
- Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
- Open the Options drawer at the bottom of the recorder, and click on Upload clip.
- Find and upload desired media. Note, if students created a video in another app, they will need to download that clip to their camera roll to upload to Flip.
- Add context by recording additional segments in Flip, or proceed with solely your uploaded clip.
- Complete recording, package with a selfie, and hit submit!
Record with mic only
The 'Audio' option lets students turn the camera off, so only their voice is recorded via the microphone. For more information, please reference this Help Center article.
Screen Record
- Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
- Open the Options drawer at the bottom of the recorder, and click on Record screen. Note, this feature is currently available only on the browser (and not via the mobile app).
- Complete recording and, if you desire, add additional clips.
- Package with a selfie, and hit submit!
Trim, rotate, and rearrange clips
After capturing footage, students can trim, rotate, and rearrange clips.- Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
- Capture creativity with the recorder. Note: On web, students will need to navigate between recording and reviewing and then returning to the recorder by clicking “Add another clip” to add multiple clips {on the mobile app, a new clip is created whenever a new recording is captured}.
- In the review step, click into a clip to trim and rotate (on the mobile app only) the segment. Drag and drop clips to rearrange clips.
- Complete recording, package with a selfie, and hit submit!
