Here are the basics: When you set up your account, you’ll first create a Topic for your learning community. Topics are discussion prompts that your students respond to with short videos. Students then Record a Response and post their video or view and Add a Comment to one another’s Responses.
Groups are a great way for educators to organize multiple Topics and share them with a community of learners. Invite your students to respond to an individual Topic or to access your Group of Topics by sharing the Join Code or Link.
Flip is available on the web and via our iOS or Android apps.
Flip in Grades 6-8 Language Arts 📖📝
In middle grades, learners refine their voice and communicate with others while strengthening skills such as elaboration and reflection. Flip helps students leverage technology to take an active role in demonstrating competency in their learning goals (ISTE Standards for Students 1). Flip allows all students to share their thoughts regardless of reading or writing skill level! Here’s just a few ways that Flip can ignite engagement and capture your students’ learning process:
⭐️ Read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems
⭐️ Use evidence to determine central ideas, analyze, draw inferences, and make connections to a text
⭐️ Determine the meaning of words and phrases, including figurative and connotative meanings.
⭐️ Analyze the impact of word choice, and explore point of view.
⭐️ Compare and contrast a written story, drama, or poem to its audio, filmed, staged, or multimedia version.
⭐️ Evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text. Recognize relevant and irrelevant evidence.
⭐️ Write and recite narratives with techniques such as dialogue, pacing, description and reflection.
Once you’re ready to create your first discussion Topic, you can dive right in from your Educator Admin or head to the Discovery Library for inspiration. Some goals for Reading and Writing in middle grades include argumentative and informative writing, citing textual evidence, analyzing main ideas, and presenting claims and findings. Knowledge Constructor 3 - Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others. 3C: Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
Creative Communicator 6 - Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals. 6D: Students publish and or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.
Global Collaborator 7 - Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally. 7B Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including peers, experts, or community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints.
