Are you new to Flip? Get Started Here.

Here are the basics: When you set up your account, you’ll first create a Topic for your learning community. Topics are discussion prompts that your students respond to with short videos. Students then Record a Response and post their video or view and Add a Comment to one another’s Responses.

Groups are a great way for educators to organize multiple Topics and share them with a community of learners. Invite your students to respond to an individual Topic or to access your Group of Topics by sharing the Join Code or Link.

Flip is available on the web and via our iOS and Android apps. 

Flip in Grades 3-5 Social Studies ✈🌍

One of the major goals in Social Studies classes is to help students communicate effectively. Unfortunately, many educators have trouble finding ways to incorporate this types of instruction into their lessons. Flip is designed to do just that — give students a fun and creative avenue to develop voice and provide educators with a simple way to integrate it in their classroom. Here are just a few ways that Flip can ignite engagement and capture your students’ learning process:

⭐️ Demonstrate knowledge of state history
⭐️ Discover world cultures
⭐️ Explain living and working together as communities and families
⭐️ Research the beginning of human society
⭐️ Discuss early civilizations
⭐️ Explain historical figures’ impact

Once you’re ready to create your first discussion Topic, you can dive right in from your Educator Admin or head to the Discovery Library for inspiration. Here is a sampling of Grades 3 - 5 Social Studies Topics currently available in the Disco Library, all created by your peers and ready to be used with your learners!

What is Freedom? by Bekah Dhaene: A Topic where students explain what freedom means to them.

Countries Around the World by Jane Hudson: A Topic where students share interesting facts they’ve learned about a different country.

Healthy Communities by Amanda Doll: A Topic where students describe what they see in the picture as it may relate to being a part of a healthy community.

🚀 Discovery Library: 4th Grade

Thank a Veteran by Kristin Merrill: A Topic allowing students to thank a veteran and explain how their service will help them to be the best versions of themselves.

Have you Immigrated Before? by Matt McDonnell: A Topic where students can share their experiences with immigration.

Bill of Rights by Mandy Mayes: A Topic where students discuss rights and decide which is most important to them.

🚀 Discovery Library: 5th Grade

Civil War by Matthew McGown: A Topic for activating prior knowledge about the US Civil War and underground railroad.

Native American Stories by Gail Ramirez: A Topic allowing students to share what they’ve learned about histories, cultures, and contributions of different tribes.

European Settlements by Kirstie Thiessen: A Topic where students summarize how European countries began to build settlements in the lands they claimed.
