Add a filter or backdrop in the camera

When you record your video, you’re able to add to change how your video looks with different camera filters or when you add a backdrop. These can help give you more control over what you present in your videos and are a fun way to express yourself. Help your viewers focus on you instead of what may happen in the background.

How to add a camera filter

Filters change the color, brightness, and quality of your recorded image.

Note: Flip has 2 filters that pixelate your image. You can use this if you want viewers to focus on the audio of your video. Learn more about how to make an audio focused video.

  1. Go to info.flip.com and log in.
  2. In the top left, click Camera Photo_camera.png.
  3. At the right, in the Effects dock, click Filter Filter.png.
  4. At the bottom, select the filter you want to use.
    • To find all your options: Click the right arrow Forward.png or left arrow Back.png.
    • To remove a filter: Select Remove Remove.png.

How to add backdrops

Web Browser Mobile Application
  1. Go to info.flip.com and log in.
  2. In the top left, click Camera Photo_camera.png.
  3. At the bottom, next to Record Record__Squircle_.png, click Backdrop Backdrop.png.
  4. Select a Flip backdrop image or create your own.
    • To use a Flip backdrop image: To find all your options, click the right arrow Forward.png or left arrow Back.png. Then, select the backdrop you want to use.
    • To use a photo or video file: Click Use photo or video Image_upload.png. Then, select the photo or video you want to use.
    • To use your computer screen or browser tab: Click Use screen as a backdrop Record_screen.png. Then in the “Choose what to share” window, select a screen or browser tab you want to share.
      • To share an entire screen: At the top, click Entire Screen. Then in the selection window, select the screen you want to record. In the bottom right, click Share.
      • To share a specific app: At the top, click Window. Then in the selection window, select the app window you want to record. In the bottom right, click Share.
      • To share a single browser tab: At the top, click either Microsoft Edge tab or Chrome Tab. Then in the selection window, select the tab you want to record. In the bottom right, click Share.
    • To blur your background: Click Blur.
    • To remove your backdrop: Select Remove Remove.png.

How to move, resize, or rotate yourself in camera

You must first use a backdrop before you're able to adjust the position and size of what your camera records. This is currently only available for Flip on the web.

  1. Go to info.flip.com and log in.
  2. In the top left, click Camera Photo_camera.png.
  3. At the bottom, next to Record Record__Squircle_.png, click Backdrop Backdrop.png.
  4. Select a Flip backdrop image or create your own.
  5. A blue box shows up around the image your camera records. Adjust the camera image of yourself.
    • Use preset adjustments: In the bottom next to "Backdrop," to shrink your image and put it in the bottom left or right of the camera, click Move left or Move right.
    • Move your image: Inside the blue box, click and drag the image.
    • Resize your image: At the corners of the blue box, select a circle and drag it.
    • Rotate your image: At the top of the blue box, click and drag the circle.
    • Return to your image’s default size and position: In the bottom next to "Backdrop," click Move center.

Note: During recording, you’re able to move the camera image but you can't resize or rotate it.
