When you record a video or take a selfie on the Flip app, you’re able to add a lens effect. These lenses allow you to use animated lenses and filters to immerse yourself in different environments that may even change your appearance or turn you into a pencil.
How to add and remove a lens for your video
To help your video stand out, explore all the different lens options.
Note: Depending on the lens you select, it may have extra visuals or audio. After you select a lens, click or tap anywhere in the camera image to find out what the lens can do.
- Go to info.flip.com and log in.
- If you can't create groups, make sure you join a group first. Learn how to find out if you can create groups.
- In the top left, click Camera
.
- At the bottom, next to Record
, click Lens
.
- At the bottom, select the lens you want to use.

To remove a lens: Select Remove
.

- When you’re ready to record, click Record
.
- Open the Flip app.
- At the bottom, tap Camera
.
- Next to Record
, tap Lens
.
- At the bottom, scroll and choose a lens.
- Some lenses allow you to change their appearance. Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Confirm, remove, or don't make changes to your lens.
- To immediately record: Tap and hold the lens you selected.

To confirm your lens: After you select a lens, at the bottom right tap Confirm
or tap the lens you selected.

To remove a lens: If you already confirmed a lens but no longer want to record with a lens, scroll and select Remove
. Then at the bottom right, tap Confirm
.

To exit lenses without making any changes: At the bottom right, tap Back
.
- When you’re ready to record, tap Record

How to add and remove a lens for your selfie cover image
After you record your video, you’re able to take a selfie with an AR lens to set as the cover image for the video you just created. This selfie can use any lens, even if you used a different lens or didn't use a lens at all when you recorded your video.
Important: After you post or save your video, you aren’t able to change its cover image.
- Go to info.flip.com and log in.
- If you can't create groups, make sure you join a group first. Learn how to find out if you can create groups.
- In the top left, click Camera
.
- Record and review your video.
- On the "Save" screen, in the top left, click Edit cover > Take selfie.
- Next to Record
, Click Lens
.
- At the bottom, select the lens you want to use.

- When you're ready to take the selfie, click Record
.
- Open the Flip app.
- At the bottom, tap Camera
.
- Record and review your video.
- On the "Save" screen, in the top left, tap Cover
.
- Next to Record
, tap Lens
.
- At the bottom of the camera image, scroll and choose a lens. You know which lens is active when it fills the thick circle.
- Some lenses allow you to change their appearance. Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Confirm, remove, or don't make changes to your lens.
